Wyverns are members of the draconus family, and are similar in appearance to their larger cousins, the dragon. Like their dragon cousins, and unlike their greater dragon cousins, wyverns do not have a breath weapon. Instead, they rely on their superb agility and deadly venoms. They have muscle or nerve poison glands in their mouths and tails, with ducts though their 5 inch fangs and barbed tail-stingers.
Wyverns are smaller and more graceful than dragons, and also less intelligent. Instinctive and physical, they are active predatory hunters who spend little time asleep or confined at home. Food is their main attraction. Although they shy away from civilization, they never bypass a meal and are apt to ambush their quarry before contemplating the consequences.
Wyverns are agile climbers, prefering to nest in highland caves or giant hollow trees. Their four-legged bodies (they have vestigal wing stumps, proving their relation to dragons) are normally between 3 to 6 spans long (including a prehensile tail one-third of that length). They can be found in virtually any environment, when they can be found at all.
