Originally the term applied to all peoples on the upper Ildoin, but during the reign of king Tarostar the term applied only to the peoples of Carrock, andElsethéd,collectively known as Northlands.During the reign of Ecthelion, the term Síde Thordin, northern peoples applied to the Irmani,Ridda,Elsethéd,Radhas and Carrock.The term Northéd applied only to Elsethéd and Carrock people.

The term Northmen was first used by Orondorians, to people who lived north of their realm.
